How long can I borrow items for and how many can I take out?

There are different loan periods for different itemsThere are also limits to the amount of items you can borrow at any time:
Books 4 weeks, Maximum 20 loans
DVDs 2 nights or 1 week, Maximum 4 loans
CDs 1 week, Maximum 8 loans
Talking Books 4 weeks, Maximum 8 loans

What can I use a library for?

You can borrow books, DVDs, CDs, talking books and also find out all sorts of information. Libraries also offer a place for quiet study, access to free computers, the Internet and various courses.

Are library services free?

Yes. It is free to borrow books, obtain information and use computers. However there are some charges to borrow certain items such as DVDs, CDs, or talking books. There are also some charges if items are returned late. There are no loan fees or charges for visually impaired people. Reduced rates for children, passport to leisure and learning, and senior citizens are available.In addition there are charges for some other services such as requesting books, printing, photocopies, sending and receiving faxes, and sales items.

Can anyone use the library?

Yes, anyone can use the library services.You will need a library card to borrow items.

Can I use computers in the library?

Anyone can use a computer in the library. It is advisable to book a computer first. Please contact your local library to book a computer. Alternatively you can book online. You will need your library card and PIN to do this. If you are a visitor to Coventry please contact your local library.

Do you have books in other languages?

Yes, We have books, newspapers, magazines and information leaflets in various community languages eg. Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, Gujarati, Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Urdu and Vietnamese.We also have novels in some European languages.We also have music CDs, DVDs and talking books in different languages. In addition we have books, CDs and tapes to help you learn English and other languages. Please contact your local library for details or the multicultural service

What is a PIN and how do I get one?

A PIN is a four digit number that provides an extra level of security when using your library card to reserve books, renew items or look up your personal information online using the library catalogue. You will also need your PIN when you book a computer on line. You will be given a PIN when you register for your library card. If you do not have a PIN, please visit any library to obtain one.

What should I do if I lose my library membership card?

Report the loss at once to any library, by telephone or in person. You are responsible for materials taken out with the card until the card is reported lost or stolen. A small fee is charged for a new card.

What should I do if I change address?

If you change your address, please bring some identification with your new address to any library so that we can update our records.

Can I return or renew an item in a different library to the one I got it from?

Yes. You may return and renew items at any library irrespective of which library you originally got the item from.
