Music Box with Wendy Harrisson

  • Bookstart for Babies for children between 0 and 12 months, which is available from health visitors at a local health clinic and libraries.
  • Bookstart+ for toddlers from 18 to 30 months available from libraries and Sure Start Children's Centres and some early years settings.
  • My Bookstart Treasure Chest  for pre-school children which are given out at early years settings such as playgroups and nurseries in the child(ren)'s pre-school year.

To obtain any of the packs, parents will need to take their Personal Child Health Record Book (Red Book) to the collecting venue.

Councillor Tim Sawdon, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Libraries said, "Bookstart is an initiative that encourages a love of reading and is based on the principle that every child should benefit from books at an early age. I would enthusiastically recommend that when parents or carers collect their child's pack they join the library, borrow free books and other materials and join the Bookstart Bookcrawl. The under 5s and their families can also enjoy and benefit from activities in local libraries such as rhymetimes, storytimes and National Bookstart Day celebrations."
