Household waste and recycling
The Council is responsible for the collection and disposal of household waste. This is a vital service that makes the area a healthy, safe and clean place to live.
Household waste
When is my bin collection day?
The household waste collection map shows household waste collection areas and days.
Household refuse is mainly collected by a wheeled bin service, although some residents may have to use our orange bag collection service. The service is carried out Tuesday-Friday weekly except during the Christmas and New Year period. We will endeavour to empty your bin on the same day each week but if, due to unforeseen circumstances, we have not done this please leave your bin out for collection the following day.
Please help us by:
- Placing wheeled bins out on the kerbside on the day of collection by 7.00am.
- Placing only household waste in bins.
- Recycling waste, whenever possible.
- Returning your bin back to your property after it has been emptied.
- Not putting black sacks out next to your bin.
Reporting a missed bin collection:
You can report a missed collection using the contact details a the foot of this page. We will need to know your address and your normal collection day.
We aim to:
- Provide 100% refuse collection from properties presenting their bins/orange sacks each week for 51 weeks of the year.
- Aim to collect within 24 hours, all those collections not made on the original day.
- Return bins from where they were collected from.
- Clean any spillages from refuse collection.
We may not return to empty your bin if:
- The bin was not placed on the kerbside by 7.00am
- The bin was too heavy due to being filled with non-domestic waste
We can provide assistance to residents who are unable to place their bin on the kerbside and/or return it to their property. For details of this service please contact us as below.
You can also request a replacement bin if your bin has been stolen, or to exchange it for a different size. Whilst waiting for delivery of a new bin please place your waste in bags on the kerbside for collection.
