The Building Control system exists to make sure that buildings are designed and constructed to ensure the health, safety, welfare and convenience of people using them.

The service that the Building Control Team provides is currently being reviewed as part of the Councils abc Transformation Programme. If you have used the service in last last 3 years, we want to hear your views. Download the questionnaire, fill it in and send it back using the FREEPOST address on the form. Your views will shape the redevelopment of the service over the coming months.

What building owners are required to do

Building owners have to carry out work in a manner that conforms with the requirements set out in both the Building Act and Building Regulations.

These requirements are made in the interest of public health, safety, welfare, convenience and for the conservation of energy. We can help you achieve the required standards by being a source of advice, checking plans and inspection of building work.
