School supervised medication

There may be occasions where parents/carers are advised that their child may return to school while still needing to take medicines.

Schools are responsible for developing their own policy for the administration of medicines in schools and related venues. School nurses are working with individual schools in Coventry to update asthma policies and offer training on specific health conditions if school staff require it.

The DfES has issued guidance to schools to help them update their Administration of Medicines policy. The document: Managing Medicines in Schools and Early Years settings sets out a clear framework within which local authorities, local health trusts, schools and early years venues can work together to develop policies to ensure that children requiring medicines receive appropriate support.

To find out more about the policy at your child's school, please contact the school directly.
