Local Area Agreement
In October 2004 Coventry was selected as one of 21 local authorities in the country to pilot a 'Local Area Agreement', a new government initiative designed to offer more flexibility in the way that government funds could be used at local level.
The City Council and the Coventry Partnership jointly prepared a proposal based on existing or developing plans and strategies within the city.
Entitled 'Progress Through Prevention' it covers a range of improvements in each of the three service areas included in the first round Local Area Agreements - Children and Young People, Safer and Stronger Communities, and Healthier Communities and Older People.
More recently, the government has announced the addition of a fourth area to Local Area Agreements relating to regeneration. This will further cement the links between the LAA, Community Plan and the council's Vision and Corporate Objectives.
The Local Area Agreement was signed by the Deputy Prime Minister in March 2005.
