The Constitution

The constitution for Coventry City Council sets out how the council operates, how decisions are made and the procedures which are followed to ensure that decisions are efficient, transparent and accountable to local people. Some of these processes are required by the law, while others are a matter for the council to choose.

How do I get a copy of the Constitution?

The council's constitution was updated in May 2010 and you can download it as a whole, or in parts, from our committee management information system.

Contents of the Constitution

The constitution is divided into eight parts. Part Two of the constitution contains the 15 articles which set out the basic rules governing the council's business. More detailed procedures and codes of practice are provided in Parts Three through to Eight.
