Council, government and democracy
Here you can find out more about how the City Council works, and how decisions are made as well as finding out more about central government.
Today Coventry has 18 wards, with each represented on the Council by three councillors. Our political management structure is that of a Leader with a Cabinet administration.
On these pages you can:
- See how the council is structured politically - including the roles of Cabinet, Scrutiny and Committees and Ward Forums.
- View committee reports, minutes and agendas.
- View the Forward Plan to see when key decisions are going to be made.
- Find information about local and general elections and how to vote.
- Find out who your local councillor is and how to get in touch with them.
- Find information about Coventry's Lord Mayor and how to invite the Lord Mayor to your event.
- Find out about about the work of central government, and how to contact your local MP and MEP.
- Browse the council procedures set out in the Council's Constitution.
The Leader and Cabinet administration has an executive board of nine councillors with their own portfolios. View each Cabinet Members' Strategic Plan to find out how their work affects you.
Many of the other members form Scrutiny Boards to oversee the decision-making process of the executive and have the power to call in any decisions made and make recommendations to the City Council. Scrutiny Board Reviews take place when councillors are concerned about a particular issue in the city.
